Summer Semester 2024, Books & Instructors

Virtual Classes using Zoom.

This summer, four classes at Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels will be offered over the course of one month, on six Saturdays, between May and June (May 11, 18, June 1, 8, 15, 22) from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM (EST). The emphasis will be on oral communication with various communicative activities, complemented by lessons on grammar, as well as textual examinations, analysis, and discussions on Swedish culture and history.

For each class and language level, there will be six course sessions held on Saturday mornings, with each session lasting 2.5 hours. A minimum of 8 students must be enrolled per class.

Beginner’s level Swedish classes will be held on Saturday mornings:

Dates: May 11 – June 22 from 9:30 AM – 12 PM (EST)

*6 course sessions between the aforementioned dates, except the Memorial Day weekend

Prerequisite: Only open to students who enrolled in our beginner’s level courses in fall 2023/Spring 2024 or students who qualify/have studied the class materials independently (a new course for new beginners will be available again in fall 2024)

A minimum of 8 students to start a class.

Advanced Beginner’s level Swedish classes will be held on Saturday mornings:

Dates: May 11 – June 22 from 9:30 AM – 12 PM (EST)

*6 course sessions between the aforementioned dates, except the Memorial Day weekend

Prerequisite: Only open to students who first enrolled in our Advanced beginner’s level courses in fall 2023/Spring 2024 or students who qualify/have studied the class materials independently

A minimum of 8 students to start a class.

Intermediate level Swedish classes will be held on Saturday mornings:

Dates: May 11 – June 22 from 9:30 AM – 12 PM (EST)

*6 course sessions between the aforementioned dates, except the Memorial Day weekend

Prerequisite: 120 hours of Swedish instruction or equivalent

A minimum of 8 students to start a class.

Textbook: Study materials include independent texts from daily newspapers and instructor-provided extracts from a pool of educational Swedish language resources or books

Advanced level Swedish classes will be held on Saturday mornings:

Dates: May 11 – June 22 from 9:30 AM – 12 PM (EST)

*6 course sessions between the aforementioned dates, except the Memorial Day weekend

Prerequisite: A solid background in Swedish

A minimum of 8 students to start a class.

Intensive course conducted in Swedish only

Textbook: Study materials include independent texts from daily newspapers as well as texts written to highlight cultural aspects of Swedish society

To clarify, we may accept students one week into the class as well. For students with late enrollment, please contact the instructor as soon as possible, to discuss and catch up on readings for the missed session(s).
